U.S. Presidential Race 4

With dozens of people now running for the office of President of the United States, the 2008 election is promising to be a textbook lesson in using voter demographics to try and determine who will replace George Bush.

VŠECHNY LEKCE ZDE

Let’s review some of the major strategies which are now underway, and how they fit into the American democratic system of government.

Democrats vs. Republicans
Historically, the states of California and New York tend to vote for the Democrats. This can cause real problems for anyone running for President who is a Republican.

Other than these two key states, Texas and Florida are also critical. Known as “swing states” Florida especially has been important in the last two Presidential elections.

Texas and Florida
Voters in both Texas and Florida, compared to California and New York, are known to “vote for the person” instead of the party.

While Texas is presently controlled by conservative Republicans, Florida could easily go either way, and it is a key state that will be fought over by all sides in the upcoming election.

President Bush’s brother, Jeb, is the Governor there and he’s very popular.

Arnold and Giuliani
It was obvious that Hillary Clinton wanted to be President when she and her husband left the White House. This is the reason she moved to New York and became a Senator, in the hopes that she would be able to win this state (which tends to vote for the Democrats anyway) as well as California.

However, when Hollywood actor Arnold Schwarzenegger suddenly became Governor of California, this changed everything. There is a real chance now that California voters will vote Republican in this next election.

Furthermore, the former Mayor of New York, Rudy Giuliani, who bravely led the city through the terrorist attacks of September 2001, is now running for President -- as a Republican. It’s called voter choice. :-)

Celebrating MORE Dumb Butt True Laws

South Bend, Indiana: it is illegal to force your monkey to smoke cigarettes.

Marion, Oregon: it is against the law to eat a donut and walk backwards on the sidewalk.

Fort Thomas, Kentucky: it is illegal for dogs to have sex with cars or lawn mowers. The law says that if a dog is caught having sex with such equipment it can be locked up in jail.

Shasta Lake, California: it is against the law to give away free puppies or kittens, even when people want them.

Cape Coral City, Florida: it is illegal to have your couch sit in your garage. You can be fined fifty dollars!

Texas: When someone wants to eat your garbage, they must have your permission first, or they can be fined by the police.
