The ladies who were present at this event were Martina Hájková, Zdena Toušková, Kateřina Šustrová, Barbora Dujková -Tomášková and her new baby Ela, Mirka Závorová, and Mrs. Pavlína Hertlová, who volunteered her home for all this.
Cooking for Seven
Originally, there were supposed to be seven women at this Expres Dinner, instead there were only six. Unfortunately, one of their colleagues had the flu, and was not able to make it.
Whenever you cook for someone else, it is always a bit of a challenge, especially when they are from a different country and culture and you have never met them before.
To help insure that everyone would enjoy what was being prepared, we relied on good ol’ Texas cooking -- barbecued chicken covered with a Mexican-honey sauce.
Instead of corn on the cob, which was originally planned, we had mixed vegetables consisting of peas, carrots and whole kernel corn, along with potato wedges coated with sour cream or chilli pepper seasoning. The ladies brought wine, a nice Porto, some salad, cookies and snack treats, and bread.
Traditional Czech Greetings
When we arrived at Pavlina’s place, they honored us with what Pavlina said was a Czech tradition: a piece of bread, some salt, and some brandy otherwise known as Slivovice.
Naturally, it was delicious, and as the photo insert easily proves, we enjoyed drinking it and honoring this fine Czech tradition.
Tomorrow, Pavlina will give us a tour of the remodeling that she has done in her house.
Celebrating MORE Dumb Butt True LawsAlaska: it is illegal to look at a moose from the window of an airplane. Alaska: it is against the law to wake up a bear from sleeping in order to take his picture. California: If you detonate a nuclear bomb in California, it is only a $500 fine! I guess Osama bin Laden would gladly pay this “penalty” anytime. :-) Florida: It is against the law to fart after 6PM on Thursdays. Now, why after 6PM and only on Thursdays, who knows. Someone should ask Florida lawmakers what they were smoking, excuse us, “thinking,” when they wrote and passed this law. Connecticut: it is illegal to walk on your hands to cross the street. Alabama: no one is allowed to drive their truck or vehicle while wearing a blindfold. |
