English is a great language for exploring science because English is largely a literal language and science is as literal as many things come. Let’s briefly review how to describe the major areas of science.

Here is how the major sciences are described in English - Part 1

Archaeology
Archaeology is the study of ancient history or cultures based on examining past artifacts and reconstructing things.

Astronomy
Astronomy is the study of stars and planets which exist in outer space. It can also be the study of other so-called celestial bodies.

Cosmology
Cosmology is the study of the formation of stars and planets and the structure of the universe itself. Cosmology is considered to be a branch of Astronomy, and it has this specific focus.

Biology
Biology is the study of life itself and of living things. These studies can be at many different levels, whether they be chemical or at the cellular scale of things.

Botany
Another branch of biology is botany, which is the specific study of plants and plant life.

Chemistry
Chemistry is the study of the properties of substances and their different forms as they exist or can be found in the elements of nature.

Meteorology
Meteorology is the study of weather, it is part of the atmospheric sciences group.

Paleontology
Paleontology often gets confused with Archaeology. Paleontology is the scientific study of fossils and past life or cultures as determined by the existence of fossil records or the fossil evidence.
