Dust Mites eat small particles. One of their favorite foods are the tiny flakes of your skin which shed constantly. Combined with the oils and chemicals (thanks to hair sprays, gels and other cosmetics) dust mites absolutely love the modern lifestyle of humans and are permanent neighbors.
As we also discussed yesterday, dust mites especially enjoy living in your pillow, and will get as close to you as they possibly can, especially while your are sleeping.
A Leading Cause of Allergies and Asthma
Each dust mite secretes as much as twenty feces droppings per day. These feces contain a protein which makes it hard for some humans to breathe, thus causing allergies.
Preventing Dust Mite Attacks
While you’ll never get rid of dust mites, you can greatly reduce their numbers. Several companies manufacture protective coverings for pillows and mattresses which will protect you from creatures down to or as small as 4 microns in size.
While none of these coverings can do anything about whatever might actually be living ON you, at least you’ll be protected from things which live in your mattress and especially on your pillows if you use such protective devices.
In addition to coverings, regular vacuuming and dusting helps reduce the number of dust mites, as do "common sense" hygiene habits.
True Butt Amazing StoriesA man goes into a store to rob it. After getting all of the money from the clerk, he sees a bottle of fine Scotch Whiskey sitting on the shelf and asks the clerk to give it to him and put it into the bag along with the rest of the money. The clerk refused to do this. The robber was stunned. He asked the clerk "Why not?" "I don’t believe you’re 21 years old," the clerk answered back. Incredibly, the robber took out his Driver’s License and showed it to the clerk. The clerk looked at it, agreed that the robber was over 21, then of course gave him the whiskey. Not surprisingly, the police found the man, and then arrest him. |
