Scientists have basically proven that a large cataclysmic event abruptly wiped out the dinosaurs some 60 millions years ago, along with about 70% of all life on this planet.

The event which caused this was the impact of a large asteroid near the region of Central America, whose impact crater was discovered only several years ago.

Ironically, when the dinosaurs and other large reptiles suddenly became extinct due to consequences of this event, their extinction made it possible for the development of mammals and apes, and much smaller creatures.

A Close Call
Many people remain unaware that in 1994, life on Earth was nearly wiped out again. The cause this time was not a single large asteroid like that which struck the dinosaurs.

Instead, it was a series of 21 comets, which only avoided slamming into the Earth one after each other thanks only to the presence of the large planet, Jupiter, which exists in our solar system.

Mass - Our Friend
Luckily for the Earth and everything which lives on it, the planet Jupiter is more than 100 times bigger than Earth. Because of Jupiter’s enormous size, its gravitational influence is much stronger.

Thanks to the presence of Jupiter, its gravitational fields literally pulled the Shoemaker-Levy comets out of their original collision course with the Earth, sparing all life!

Jupiter Takes 21 Hits for Earth
As the 21 comet fragments streaked into the solar system and then hit Jupiter’s surface, they were traveling at more than 60 kilometers per second.

Instantly, upon impacting Jupiter, enormous explosions and fires raged, several of which were larger than the entire Earth itself.
