Some Easter Differences

  • 82
Easter is almost upon us, a sure sign that Spring is here and that Mother Nature is roaring back in bloom and starting a new season. Let’s review some information now concerning how Easter is celebrated in America vs. in the Czech Republic.

In America, Easter is NOT a holiday and it never will be.

This has to do with the fact that the U.S. Constitution demands full separation of the powers of church and state. This means that the government CANNOT endorse a single religion, religious event or religious holiday, even if everyone truly "believes" in it.

Officially, America, although it admits and prints on its money the words "In God We Trust," Americans make a point not to define exactly "who" or "what" so-called "God" is.

By being officially neutral, this empowers everyone to have their own true freedom of religion, to worship (or not worship) any "God" that they wish, as long as they don’t hurt people.

In America, most people "believe" in God and they consider themselves to be "religious" even though most never go to church. Go figure.

Czech Ironies
One of the ironies of celebrating Easter here in the Czech Republic, is that Easter itself is a national holiday, a "religious" holiday in fact. This is amazing, since the vast majority of Czechs are atheists!

Easter Eggs - No "Beatings"
Naturally, in America no one hits anyone with a stick for Easter, nor do the women throw water on the men. While it is hard to connect such activities with what Jesus supposedly taught, in America (as we have joked before) with all its lawyers, such "traditions" would be over-regulated, or banned.

Heck, Americans can’t even agree on what constitutes "reasonable torture" for terrorists or what is "torture." Until they figure THAT issue out, beating people during Easter is probably best left to non-Americans.

Easter Bunny

Here are the "Top 8" reasons why the Easter Bunny behaves, well, just like the Easter Bunny does during Easter.

1. BIG tax deduction for giving out all of those eggs as a “gift”.
2. He gets a quantity discount from the local chicken mafia consortium.
3. The Energizer Bunny (see photo above) got the only other respectable job for bunnies.
4. Bugs Bunny and Warner Brothers didn’t want the job.
5. The Easter Bunny owns stock in the Cadbury Chocolate Company.
6. By being the Easter Bunny, he can rub his own feet for automatic good luck!
7. Kids LOVE him.
8. Tradition for the sake of tradition.
