In other words, if you have a hard time understanding what each word means by itself, knowing some common expressions or phrasal verbs where some of these words you might not understand are used, can only help you.

Let’s review a few of the more common phrasal verbs which begin with the letter "A" in English.

Answer For
When someone must "answer for" something, this means that they must either explain it, or be held accountable and face the consequences.

Examples: "He has a lot to answer for. He was gone from work all last week and didn’t tell anyone at the company he works for" or "That criminal has a lot to answer for. He robbed over thirty houses and stole over one million dollars worth of people’s property."

Ask Out
When you ask someone out, or "ask out" someone, this means you are going to make them a proposition of some kind to either go do something, or go to some place.

Examples: "John is going to ask Petra out for a date tomorrow night, he is so nervous" or "He will never ask her out because he is too shy."

Ask Around (Ask Round)
When a person "asks around" this means that they make a point to ask people their opinions, or they seek out specific individuals for their comments.

Examples: "The police started asking around the neighborhood to see if anyone saw the burglars last night" or "The company started asking around to see if there were any other employees who might want the new job."

Joke of the Day - God vs. Satan

A long time ago in the Garden of Eden, God made nothing but healthy foods for humans to eat.

Seeing this, Satan then makes things like ice cream and asks if anyone wants hot fudge as well?

Then God made healthy green salads to counter Satan. Satan, seeing this, then creates salad dressing, and loads it all up with calories.

Not to be outdone, God then creates yogurt, to keep His people fit.

To counter this, Satan then creates white flour, refined sugar, soft drinks, and deep fried foods.

In response, God creates vegetables and healthy olive oils.

Not to be "bested", Satan invents sausages and beer and french fries.

In a counter move, God then creates triple bypass heart surgery, in order to help save people.

Satan then creates the Czech National Health Care System. :-)
