The photo that accompanies this article shows their bedroom.
Notice that their bed has a blue covering on it, and that there are two small orange pillows. Some people would refer to these as decorative pillows, compared to larger, more standard sleeping pillows.
The mattress of their bed is set on a wooden frame. The bed is roomy, and is comfy for two.
Above their bed is a small stereo, with two speakers. Obviously, this is for enjoying those quiet moments while watching TV :-)
Blinds vs. Curtains
Their bedroom window does not have any curtains. Instead, it’s more modern and has what are called hor-izontal blinds.
In English, blinds are thin strips of material, oriented either horizontally or vertically, which span across the width of a window. Normally, by pulling on either a string or perhaps by turning a rod, blinds can then be made to open or close, controlling the light which shines through the window.
If the blinds run horizontally, they are called horizontal blinds. If blinds run vertically, they are called vertical blinds.
Some people also call blinds venetian blinds.
If you were in Texas, and you use the term venetian blinds, they will just tell you “that’s just another fancy phrase. You mean blinds.”
