Audio and Text
This content is courtesy of several different historical institutions and U.S. Presidential libraries. These are actual recordings from history, they are real conversations, and speeches that these unique men all gave.
One of the first things you will notice when listening to them is that these men have very different accents. This has to do with the different areas of America that they all came from, as well as their oratory styles.
For example, both Presidents Roosevelt and Kennedy had a tendency to exaggerate their accents a bit for dramatic effect when they wanted to stress important points or were speaking in public and saying things for official consumption.
Listening to John F. Kennedy
Despite his relatively short career due to his tragic assassination, JFK remains one of Americas most loved Presidents.
When you hear these formerly classified recordings, even those JFK had with former President Dwight Eisenhower, where they discuss the Soviet Union and the Cuban Missile Crisis; you will see Kennedy at his “razor best,” -- he is extremely focused, with very little accent, and he moves the conversation (even President Eisenhower) steadily along.
Originally, Eisenhower hated John Kennedy. He felt he was a “too immature rich kid” to be President. Kennedy quickly proved his “critics” wrong.
Nikita Kruschev also felt like Eisenhower did, quickly “tested” JFK over the Cuban Missile Crisis, -- and lost.
We’ll continue to add more English language content to the Kal’s Korner Online Web site until someone pays us some serious money NOT to. :-)
