Blind as a Bat
When someone is "as blind as a bat," this means that they have a hard time seeing things clearly.
In reality, bats are actually very good at finding things in the dark, thanks to their built in radar systems; literally, this phrase nonetheless means that a person just can’t see the forest from the trees -- which of course is another cliché. :-)
Easy As Pie and Piece of Cake
When something is "as easy as pie," this means that it is very simple, easy to understand or work with, and presents no known problems. A similar cliché to this is "It’s a piece of cake."
Smart as a Whip
When something or someone is "as smart as a whip," this means that they are very clever or intelligent or think very fast on their feet -- which is also another cliché.
As you can gather by now, the English language has a bazillion clichés; indeed, some Hollywood "B" movies consist of scripts which are almost entirely clichés.
Dumb As a Box of Rocks
When someone is not "as smart as a whip," the exact opposite is someone who is "as dumb as a box of rocks." This is another cliché, of course.
Sad But True
When something is "sad but true," it is literally sad, but it is also true.
