A "mid" meal is anything that you eat in between one of the major meals. Examples:
"He had a mid-afternoon snack around 3:00PM because he was hungry and didn’t want to wait until dinner," or "She had a mid-morning snack, because she felt she couldn’t wait for lunch."
In this second example only, a "mid-morning snack" or meal would also be called brunch.
Mid vs. "Midnight Snack"
Although the use of the term mid is short for the word middle in the English language, there is another phrase concerning the eating of food where the word midnight is used. This is what is called a midnight snack.
A midnight snack is anything that you might eat after your normal dinner. What time you eat it really doesn’t matter, it can be either before midnight or certainly even after.
Sometimes, people will get up in the middle of the night (especially men) and they’ll "eat a little something" or "drink a little something," and then go back to bed.
The generic term for all of this is a midnight snack or a midnight bite to eat.
After Dinner Whatevers...
Sometimes, people will not eat much of anything after their main dinner, instead, they’ll have perhaps a small drink.
The term for this is, not surprisingly, an after dinner drink or "shot," depending on what it is that is being consumed.
