Know Your Meals - Part 1

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are a bit different in some countries. Although Europeans and Americans share many traditions in common, there are some key differences. The areas of breakfast, lunch and dinner are fine examples. Let’s review a few facts about them.

In the United States, breakfast largely consists of what is called either a light meal, or a heavy meal.

If it’s a "light" breakfast, it would include things like yogurt, fresh fruit, perhaps cottage cheese; tea, some sort of bread, but nothing greasy or oily or deep fried.

A "heavy" breakfast would include things like pancakes, fried potatoes (hash browns), fried eggs; meats such as sausage or bacon, or a piece of ham or even beef; and just about anything else. In a heavy breakfast, anything goes.

Brunch vs. Lunch
Out on the West coast of the United States, it is common for people (even at their workplace) to take what is called a "brunch break."

Like its name implies, the word "brunch" is any meal you eat somewhere between the time of your breakfast and your lunch.

For many people, especially in states like California and Washington, (not Washington D.C.), brunch is usually between ten to no later than eleven in the morning. Brunch usually consists of something very light, like perhaps a cup of fruit, maybe a piece of fruit, or some yogurt or maybe coffee or tea.

Lunch
Lunch is of course the "middle" meal of the day. In America, people take their lunches anywhere from 11:30 in the morning to 1:00PM.

Most people have either 30 minutes for lunch, or perhaps an hour, and for those who need to drive to go have lunch somewhere, this takes away from their time.Part II tomorrow.
