The word might in the English language has several different definitions. Let’s briefly review a few of them. The first definition of the word might has to do with something that could possibly happen or possibly get done.

Example: "I might go to the mountains this weekend if the snow is right for skiing" or "I might go to the movie this weekend to see that new Star Wars film."

Might = Possibly or Possibility
In this first definition, the word might is essentially a synonym for the word possibility or possibly. If something might happen, this means that it could happen.

Might
Another definition of the word might has to do with strength or power. Examples:

"That football team has some mighty good players, I am not sure we can beat them in completion" or "The U.S. put a lot of military might behind the invasion of Normandy, France, on June 6, 1944 to help the Allies defeat Hilter."

Might Could Have
In American English, not British English, and especially in the regions of the USA known as the South, people will often use the word might in ways that are probably "strange" to non-native speakers of English such as Europeans. Examples:

"I might well have gone to the store, but I thought we had enough supplies for our trip" or "I might could have called his boss and asked him, but I just didn’t think of it."

In this case, when the word might is followed by words like could or should, it essentially means perhaps.
